Hi!

I've arrived early in Saigon after getting to Bangkok and the flight being changed to the 11am instead of the 7pm flight. Bonus!

I am safely in Saigon and have internet at the hotel - bonus No. 2!

Off to see Alegria - Cirque Du Soleil in Manchester in April.
From what I hear, it is an acrobat style circus show. Circus of the Sun... sounds cool... as long as I'm entertained and not bored

Snowboarding! What's all that milarky
Most of it was icy but still good.
Went to Scotland and the Glen Coe range. Just can't garantee the conditions. I still prefer Andorra.

Holiday planned Jan 20, 2012 4:23 am

Just been planning my holidays for 2012.

I think Vietman is going to be my April holiday (I went there a couple of years ago and it was excellent) I hope to visit the places I missed last time around near HCMC. Also I'd like to go back to Da Nang and up to the mountains around Sa Pa in the North, if I have time.

For a mini break I threw a pin into a map of Europe and it landed on Lugansk in the Ukraine - no idea what is there but that is "pin-holidays" for you

I also plan to go snowboarding in the next couple of weeks - a bit of last minute deals stuff - Scotland (if the wind stays down and the snow stays up) or Andorra (Pas de la Casa is always good).

oops! Changed the spelling to Lugansk.

Blackpool weekend Aug 8, 2011 11:18 am

I'm off to Blackpool this weekend to try all the tourist attractions. Fairground rides, Blackpool tower, Horseshoe show bar on the North Pier, the Sealife centre and the waxworks.

I plan to see the "Ripley's Believe it or not!" exhibition and the Solaris alternative energy research centre and DEFINATELY A RIDE ON THE TRAM'S.
I might even find time to go to a Burleque show at a place called Funny girls or the mega nightclub called Club Sanuk is all about -7 Bars, 5 rooms 4 Great Music Styles.
Mmmmm I wonder if I can fit that all in during 2 days

To set the scene, the club advertises that you will have a culinary and artistic experience that will stimulate all your 5 senses. You are asked not to be late and arrive at 19:30. You are not told what the5 course menu is as it is set by the Chef and part of the experience.

I arrived and was directed downstairs to the basement bar for pre-dinner drinks. The first thing I saw at the bottom of the stairs was the toilets which are marked “Hetro” and “Homo” which I think set the tone of the evenings potentials. Through a mirrored walkway and into a bar with a dancefloor, basic music being played and a ambient lighting. To the rear of the this is the “seating” area, a set of double beds covered in satin sheets, on the walls ½ metre 1eather square panels and at each join a metal ring. Nice enough décor. On the bed is a low table to place your drinks and leather cushions to lean against. I bought a drink and sat on one bed as other guests arrived. Mostly couples and a few groups of friends. I was the only one on my own.

By the time the guests had arrived and sat around for 30 minutes or so, we are called through to the dining area upstairs in the main restaurant.
This is a large open room with the kitchen servery at one end, sitting behind the bar. Around the sides are lines of beds covered in white satin and trimmed with black. The walls covered with flowing white fabrics, moved by a fan and the light was pastel colours shone onto the wall fabrics. In the middle of the room was a set of tables and chairs for the aftermeal party. Facing the kitchen & bar was a DJ, playing a mixture of music (none of it particularly rememberable).

I went to my allocated bed, also set up with a low table on it. Next to me was a couple of French people (who were very picky about their food – vegiterian, allergies etc) and the other side a couple of older Dutch ladies, who were pleasant to chat to.

It is now 20:30 and we have not even started the meal.

Well first course was served and it was Devilled King prawns (cooked in Paprika) on a bed of Asparagus and served with croutons (which were burnt).

20 minutes later
course two – Cream of Mushroom soup with cottage cheese and chopped nuts in it. This was tastey

Some time later – course 3 – Poached Salmon on fried asparagus. I was not impressed, first the salmon was not properly cooked and second as a culinary experience I did not expect the same vegetable twice on the same menu.

Some time later – course 4 – Roasted loin of pork with mashed potato and vegetables in a BBQ sauce. The mash and vegetables were cooked well, the pork was tasty. The only complaint was that the BBQ sauce was straight out of a bottle that you can buy in the shops, I know this as I saw them squirting it on. Not impressed.

30 minutes later fifth course – desert which was a dollop of Crème Fresh served with a ¼ of fresh sliced pineapple and a decoration of raspberry sauce threaded around the platter (which was a floor tile) They served the sweet on the tile and you shared it with the person you were with.

The meal finished at 23:00 and I was still hungry, partly because the meal was small but mainly because it took so long.

I could have done better than this. And at 70Euro for food only it was very expensive. Drinks were not cheap either.

I left there about 23:30 and went to the local MacDonald,s to get something to eat ()

Off for a weekend to Amsterdam. I plan to visit all the places that are educational. I'll avoid the red light district, Amsterdam always gets the bad reputation and I have met nice people from there. I think I want to visit the museum's, take a canal ride and find a jazz club I heard about.
UPDATE: Going to a cabaret show in Boom Chicago, which sounds fantastic

Just started using the Zumba fitness DVD's.
Well I don't need them for losing weight. They are good for cardio stuff and I use them to get some co-ordination and learn some basic dance moves. With my co-ordination I expected to take a long time to get the hang of the steps, I;m getting there after 3 days. Still getting used to the fast rate that is on some of the tunes, get those long legs shuffling.

Great fun

Pantos on Strike Nov 18, 2010 11:43 am

Recently went to see Pantos on Strike in Manchester - very funny
Basically Evil King Foo kidnaps Princess Chrystal (Cinderella)and holds her to ransom, not to be released until the Panto baddies are allowed to win this year.
The rest of Panto land go on strike until Princess Chrystal is released.
Paddy McGuinness & Jonny Wilkes are sent in to rescue Panto land and the princess.
I have seen Paddy on TV with Peter Kaye and was not a big fan of their comedy but here he was excellent.
A lot of sexual Innuendo and tongue in cheek comments. Snow White as a prostitute and the 7 dwarfs running a lap dancing club called "Seventh Heaven". Dick Whittington (a black dude nicknamed "Big D***" - apparently I can not use this panto characters name, the arbitors say it is profanity - grow up)
I guess your getting the picture. Very light hearted with an adult humour angle.
Very funny slap-stick comedy and a decent enough theatre (Opera House in Manchester).
Next time it would be nice to go with someone to the theatre.
